Welcome to the Office of
Commissioner Edward Daniels
ANC 6D07, Navy Yard | Capitol Riverfront
Navy Yard | Capitol Riverfront | Buzzard Point | SW Chairman, ANC 6D
About Edward
Commissioner Edward Daniels is a second-term ANC representing the residents of ANC 6D07 (Navy Yard-Capitol Riverfront) and is the current Chairman of ANC 6D, which represents the residents of Navy Yard, Capitol Riverfront, Buzzard Point, and Southwest DC.
Commissioner Daniels is an award-winning actor and entrepreneur who has called Washington, DC home for the past 18 years.
In his own words: “I began to follow the development of the Capitol Riverfront back in 2008 when much of the area consisted of empty fields, warehouses, and a very polluted Anacostia River. I became a bit fascinated with the evolution of this part of DC and, after living in Columbia Heights and Shaw, moved to Navy Yard in 2016.”
As Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner of one of the 12 coolest neighborhoods around the world, according to Forbes Magazine, Commissioner Daniels has tirelessly advocated for government accountability, efficacy, and transparency.
“I’m an artist and an entrepreneur with a background in the live events, stage, and film industry. There is a certain amount of urgency and far less bureaucracy involved in my primary field, that I haven’t discovered in the world of politics. My goal is to reshape some of the political norms that the system and its players have grown accustomed to, especially before the pandemic changed our lives. You’re either here to get work done or you shouldn’t be here at all- that’s how I see it!”
As the neighborhood continues to grow and become a world-class residential, entertainment, and tourist destination, Commissioner Daniels continues to fight for Vision Zero safety in our public spaces, to change to DC zoning laws that would make affordable housing an actual reality, and to find solutions to our community’s everyday concerns that stick as opposed to scapegoating them from agency to agency.
Daniels is a 2002 graduate of the University of Virginia. He lives in Navy Yard with his dog Paris and can reference any of life's oddities to an episode of Portlandia.
What's an ANC?
Washington DC is divided into 40 districts called Advisory Neighborhood Commissions, or ANCs.
ANCs are made up of 2-12 commissioners who make decisions about a broad range of issues in your community including parking, recreation, street improvements, liquor licenses, zoning, restaurants, the police, sanitation, and the District's annual budget. Your ANC commissioners also control grant money of several thousand dollars (or more) for the general purpose of improving their area and hiring staff for the ANC.
Each commissioner on an ANC is elected for a two-year term and represents a division of Washington DC called a Single Member District, or SMD. Commissioners each represent about 2,000 DC residents who live in the SMD.*
To get involved in your ANC, you can attend ANC meetings, learn more about your ANC, and make your voice heard throughout your community.
Start by finding your ANC based on your current address. Click HERE.
*Due to the rapid growth and development of ANC 6D07, Commissioner Daniels currently represents well over 11,000 residents in 22 high-rises and Capitol Quarter I & II. The SMD may shift once results of the 2020 US Census are finalized.
